Wine, free and open-source implementation to run Windows apps on Linux, released version 6.9 last night. Here’s how to install it in Ubuntu 21.04, Ubuntu 20.10, Ubuntu 20.04, and Ubuntu 18.04.
*Install Wine On Sierra Windows
*Install Wine On Sierra Key
*Install Wine On Sierra Vista
*Install Wine On Mac High Sierra
*Install Wine On Sierra Classic
To install Windows applications using Wine, follow these instructions: Download the Windows application from any source (e.g. Download the.EXE (executable). Place it in a convenient directory (e.g. The desktop, or home folder). Open the terminal, and cd into the directory where the.EXE is located. Wine 6.9 is the new development release that features:
*WPCAP library converted to PE.
*Support for paper forms in the print spooler.
*More math functions from Musl in the C runtime.
There are also many bug-fixes for Windows apps including TroopMaster, Visual C++ 2010, Overwatch, The Sims 2, and more. How to Install Wine 6.9 in Ubuntu:
Wine has its own apt repository for Ubuntu, Linux Mint based systems. Open terminal from system app launcher. When it opens, run following commands one by one:
1.) Run command to enable 32 bit architecture (if you don’t have it):
Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.
2.) Install the repository key by running command:
3.) Add wine repository
Note there’s A BLANK SPACE before the code name (e.g., focal, groovy, hirsute, bionic) in each command!
*For Ubuntu 20.04, Linux Mint 20.x, run command ():
*For Ubuntu 20.10, run command:
*For Ubuntu 18.04, run command:
*For 21.04, run command:
Don’t know your system edition? Run lsb_release -a command in terminal to check out.
4.) For Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux Mint 19.x only, libfaudio0 library is required to install from a third-party repository by running command:

I am using a Macbook Pro Retina, Late 2013. I’m installing Wine Devel because I found it to be reliable, and I very rarely update it. You can choose to install the Wine Stable version if you would like. In this guide I have installed mIRC as an example to take advantage of downloading things via xdcc. I have already installed foobar on this Macbook, and it works flawlessly.
Steps to be taken:
*[1] Install prerequisites
*[2] Install Wine
*[3] Download the Windows .exe setup file (I’m installing mIRC)
*[4] Install the Windows application using Wine App
*[5] Create a shortcut to the App using Apple Script Editor
*[6] Change the App icon
[1] Install prerequisites
You will need XQuartz which can be downloaded via https://www.xquartz.org/, or MacPorts or via Homebrew. I like to keep it simple and download it from the website.
[2] Install Wine
You can update Wine by downloading the newest version off of the website and opening it
[3] Download the Windows .exe setup file (I’m installing mIRC)
Just install the setup file of the program, and we will open it using the Wine app
[4] Install the Windows application using Wine App
Open the Wine app, and type
wine program.exe
depending on the setup name, and path change the .exe file name and path accordingly
[5] Create a shortcut to the App using Apple Script Editor
Apple Script Editor is found within the “Script Editor” app, a preinstalled app on macs
Paste the script below here and fill it in accordingly. (Note: Copy and pasting from here will have incorrect formatting, visit https://wiki.winehq.org/MacOS_FAQ#How_to_create_shortcut.2C_launcher.2C_or_.app_to_start_a_given_.exe.3F for the correct formatting)
onrun
–edit this to be the correct location and file to run (typically only edit after the “drive_c”)
settoRunto “$WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Program Files/mIRC/mirc.exe”
–edit winePrefix if you are not using the default prefix
setwinePrefixto “$HOME/.wine”
–edit wineLocation if your wine install is not the default location
setwineLocationto “/Applications/Wine Devel.app/Contents/Resources/wine/bin”
–edit dyldFallbackLibraryPath to your X11 lib folder, this one is set for XQuartz on 10.6+
setdyldFallbackLibraryPathto “/opt/X11/lib”

[6] Change the app icon
Now you can make an app icon by right clicking the app, and showing package contents. Under Contents > Resources, to have a custom app icon instead of the default (Apple Script Editor Icon) you have to replace the default “applet.icns” file with a custom 256px x 256px applet.icns.icns file with an image of your application (you can find them online).
